The last weekend of January has been a popular event in Córdoba since 2001, when a Medieval Market was held. For three days, well-known squares such as Plaza de la Corredera, Plaza de las Cañas, and Plaza del Potro, along with their surrounding streets, are transformed, transporting both locals and visitors back to this fascinating yet dark era.

However, in 2014, a significant change occurred in the market’s theme. For the first time, it was inspired by Roman times, rather than the medieval period as before. Another new feature that year was the relocation of the market from its usual spot to the banks of the Guadalquivir River, next to the Roman Bridge and the Calahorra Tower.

Following the success of the first Roman Market, the following year the same theme was repeated, also including the opportunity to visit the Circus Maximus. Gladiator fights, chariot races with Roman chariots, and legionary parades immersed the public in the era of Colonia Patricia Corduba.

However, in 2016 the market returned to its original theme: a market that transported visitors to the Middle Ages, although its location remained next to the Calahorra Tower.

Numerous craft stalls, stands offering a variety of food and drinks, and vendors selling cheeses, honey, bread, sweets, spices, meats, and sausages attract thousands of people each year. In addition to purchasing these products at this unique market, visitors can also find artisans demonstrating their craft on-site, allowing them to observe the entire process from the initial work with raw materials to the final product.

But in addition to the artisanal aspects, visitors can also enjoy various interesting shows such as birds of prey demonstrations, juggling, magic acts, music, dancing, and games.

The next edition of the Medieval Market of Córdoba will be held from January 28 to 30, 2022.
